Artist BackgroundI am primarily a self-taught artist. I began painting over 35 years ago by taking weekly classes in the basement studio of a professionally trained artist. After a year of classes, I moved to another state and continued painting on my own. Painting had been a dream of mine since childhood. I was drawing and painting on anything that didn't try to get away. When I was very young, I drew pictures on leftover cash register rolls given to me by a local grocer. In High School I took every art class available and joined the "Art Club". I grew up in New Harmony and Northern Indiana after Dad, and then my husband Joe, found employment in the steel mills. After returning to New Harmony when my husband retired, I began giving painting classes in my home studio. That was 15 years ago and I still hold a class whenever possible. I painted only in oils until the Spring of 2009 when a good friend and fellow artist encouraged me to give acrylics a try. I did and loved it!! Now I paint in both mediums. I have been employed at the New Harmony Inn for several years and truly enjoy my job at the Front Desk. My children have been great supporters of my endeavors, but have had no interest in learning to paint. However, several of my grandchildren love it and we have a private lesson whenever we can.
